2009 WECP Annual General Meeting - Calgary
WECP is a collaboration between 16 "energy cities" around the world. The organization allows the member cities to exchange petroleum industry knowledge, as well as economic and infrastructure development strategies, which is important to help each city in its common task of supporting its local energy sector.
In addition to city collaboration, the WECP provides a worldwide network of industry support services and resources, and facilitates trade missions for local businesses to travel to member cities and capitalize on business development opportunities.
Unique Business Development Forum for International Firms Second only to Saudi Arabia’s reserves, the province of Alberta’s oil sands deposits were described by Time Magazine as "Canada’s greatest buried energy treasure," and "could satisfy the world’s demand for petroleum for the next century". Alberta’s current crude oil reserves are estimated to be around 175 billion barrels.
Calgary is the decision-making hub and head office of every major oil and gas company in the country. No other industry in the country is as highly concentrated as Canada’s energy sector: the decisions made in downtown Calgary affect multi-billion dollar projects in Alberta, Canada and around the world. This concentration also makes Calgary, and Alberta, a global leader in all aspects of energy development: project design, exploration, production, finance, processing, transportation, marketing and management.
The size of oil sands projects and the production challenges seen by the industry have created multi-billion dollar business opportunities for international suppliers of oil & gas products and services. This is the right time for international suppliers to visit Calgary and share their expertise with major Canadian energy and engineering companies.
Accomodation
The WECP event will take place at the Westin Calgary, located in the heart of downtown Calgary. A preferred conference rate has been arranged for WECP attendees; rooms are available at a conference rate of $195/night. The Westin Calgary is a smoke free hotel.
