The port expansion is one of the huge infrastructure projects taking place in the country. The port expansion is a great project, assumed by the Moroccan firm Somagec, that started in 2007 and is scheduled to be completed in 2009.

When completed, the new Port of Malabo will be home to the following features:

  • 485 m Dock with close to 400 m for ships in propulsion, 35 m for RO-RO ships and 50 m for barges and vessels

In addition, it is protected with a 400 m retaining wall. It is calculated that with the new port, 27 new hectares will be earned for works that will service the important operations of maritime transportation, loading and unloading, that the country currently needs. The global objective of the project is for Malabo to possess a port according to international standards, and that it serves as a interface for the ships in destination to West and Central Africa. It will also be the only deep water port of the Central African region.

Future projects are the construction of the new Maritime Passageway of Malabo, of five kilometers, that will serve as a departure point for a deep urban renovation, in face of the future of the city and in the improvement of the architectonic configuration.
