Membership Procedure
Expression of Intent
- Applicant City submits a letter of intent to a WECP member city requesting the member city’s support and nomination. Note: if there is currently a member city from the same country, nomination/approval must come from this member city.
- The Member City then submits a letter to the Permanent Secretariat indicating their intent to nominate the applicant city along with the applicant’s original letter of intent.
Invitation to Observe and Submission of Application Packet
- The Board of Directors reviews the letters and votes to allow the application to proceed and extend an official invitation to the applicant city to attend a WECP meeting as an observer. The invitation will be made in writing by the Permanent Secretariat. The Applicant City will be asked to give a brief presentation about their city and their interest in WECP at the meeting.
- Once the Board indicates that it will consider the application, the nominating city will work with the Applicant City to prepare all documents required in the Application Procedure.
- These documents are submitted to the Permanent Secretariat and distributed to all member cities for review.
Approval and Signing of Cooperative Agreement
- Upon review of all submitted documents and attendance at a WECP meeting, the nominating city shall make a formal nomination of the applicant city to the Board of Directors.
- The Board of Directors will vote to approve the applicant city. If approved unanimously, the applicant city will sign the WECP Cooperative Agreement.
The city will then become a regular, “Class A” Voting Member of the World Energy Cities Partnership. They will have all rights and responsibilities associated therewith.
